Minor in Canadian Irish Studies

 

There are many possible options with a Minor to suit your interests and needs!

For students in 90-credit programs:

Minor in Canadian Irish Studies with a Major in another subject

Double Minor (a Minor in Canadian Irish Studies with another Minor and a Major in other subjects)

Minor in Canadian Irish Studies with an Honours or Specialization in another subject

 

For students in 120-credit programs:

Minor in Canadian Irish Studies with an Honors or Specialization in another subject

A Double Minor (A Minor in Canadian Irish Studies with another Minor and a Major in other subjects)

A Minor in Canadian Irish Studies, and a Double Major in other subjects

A Minor in Canadian Irish Studies with a Major in another subject

The Minor in Canadian Irish Studies is a 24-credit program intended for undergraduate students in the Faculty of Arts and Science who wish to complement their core area of study, or Major, with a selection of courses focused on the Irish experience in Ireland and Canada.

Required Courses :

  • IRST 203 – Introduction to Irish Studies
  • ENGL 357 / IRST 398D – The Irish Literary Revival
  • HIST 211 / IRST 211 – History of Ireland
  • IRST 270 – Irish Traditional Music:  A Global Soundscape

The remaining 12 credits for the Minor program may be drawn from a broad selection of Irish-themed courses offered in collaboration with departments including Art History, Economics, English, Film Studies, Geography, History, Modern Languages, Music, Political Science, Sociology and Anthropology, Theatre, Theology and Women’s Studies. While not all departments are represented each semester, new courses are introduced every year, constantly widening the reach of the program and the diversity of its offerings.
