Anna Campbell
After taking one Irish history class on a whim, I was surprised to discover that such a tiny island could hold so much cultural wealth. I quickly set about registering for more classes in other subjects, from film to music ethnography, and I was immediately hooked. Irish Studies has given me such an unexpected opportunity to explore many facets of a nation's culture, history, and politics--and indeed even the definition of a nation itself. The fact that I became involved with the department not only yielded the chance to take a whole array of new and interesting classes, but indeed a scholarship as well, proves that my decision to take that first history class was one of the best choices I could have made!
